We were delighted to welcome Sarah Parker, the new Dorset Council Executive Director of People – Children to our 0-19 VCS Conference in 2019 and were left buoyed up about the positive future she sees for the children and young people in Dorset.

The Conference was positively received by everyone who attended to listen to Sarah and our other Key Note Speakers. Dara de Burca from The Children’s Society described the work being done to disrupt the exploitation of children by working with other key partners delivering a project currently being trialled in big cities. Julie Plumley from Future Roots and Yvonne Shell described their experience of County Lines, another form of child exploitation, and the Power Threat Meaning Framework and how this can engage young people through what has happened to them rather than through their actions.

We were entertained by Harriett from The Horse Course on non-verbal strategies, informed by Kooth, XenZone, about the availability of online counselling for young people, and invigorated by The Koru Project by joining in the creative drama used by them.  We were also fortunate to have the Waves Project provide information about the work they have done with parents on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the effect they have on children.
