Dorset Families Matter is the local delivery partner of the National Troubled Families Initiative. Family Link Workers provide hands on, practical and intensive support to complex families with an emphasis on a ‘needs led’ approach; adapting to a family’s individual needs and getting them the right support at the right time. The service works with the whole family in a flexible way, which means we can work with a family every day, to just once a fortnight. We offer support in a variety of areas including but not limited to the following:

  • Establishing morning and evening routines
  • Help with budgeting
  • Organising the family home and duties
  • Support with job searching
  • Improving attendance at school
  • Confidence building
  • Mentoring
  • Support accessing other services
  • Parenting skills

Our team of four Family Link workers have a range of skills and experience, and aim to support families to build on their knowledge and ability to ensure that they can sustain any changes once our support comes to an end.

Families will often receive more than one form of support from a Family Link Worker. Each form of support can help our workers to get to know the families better, helping to increase their confidence, help them to progress onto employment or education and improve family dynamics.
