How We Help Young People Fit4Life Satellite Club Dorset Youth Association is pleased to announce that we have gained funding from Sport England through their Satellite Clubs Programme to continue our successful sports projects that we have run over the last 3 and a half years. This funding will allow us to continue until 31st August during which time we will endeavour to find new funds to continue our needed and pertinent work. We are working with The Drop In on Portland and any of their young people who are aged between 11 – 25 years old. The idea of the project is that we will make it easier for young people to get active and stay active. We will provide opportunities for young people to take part in physical activity but in a more relaxed youth club style, which will allow us to work with those that may traditionally not be involved in sport or who are in fact inactive. We will do this by creating enjoyable, appealing and convenient opportunities for young people that are based around their needs. Satellite clubs have helped thousands of young people get active and Sport England’s support to the programme will continue under their new strategy ‘Toward an Active Nation’ Our Sports Development Coordinator will also work with those young people to show them what is on offer both on Portland and within the local catchment, should they wish to carry on taking part in sport but at a club or community level in their chosen sport. We are hoping that this programme can act as a catalyst for some of the young people on Portland that are facing disadvantage so they can gain confidence and grow as individuals with the overall outcome being they move onto local clubs and groups to continue their personal and sporting development. Sessions on Portland will run on Tuesday’s at the YMCA between 6 – 7.30pm and also Wednesday’s at The Drop In (Red Triangle Cricket Club) between 6 – 8pm.
